As 2015 comes to an end, Tapes From The Revolutionary wins Grand Prix Award at Hammerbrook Film Festival. Located in Hamburg, the festival has an emphasis on programming films that display sincerity, supporting independent filmmakers in the process.
Festival founder, Jonatan Petre Brixel explains,
“… You get the feeling that the films are selected by a self proclaimed elite, usually the upper and middle class of country of choice, who wants to be intellectually stimulated because they are bored of life.
Film makers become puppets who wants to be accepted by this elite and gradually they change their type of films to suit the elite they want to be approved of. This is bad, espcially when you see people change for the worse without realizing it, but its the way of life and fortunately not the road everyone take.”
What is it like to see the world through someone else’s eyes?
Filmmaker, Scott Willis discovers Andy, a self proclaimed communist revolutionary that documents his life on a Hi-8 camcorder. Aiming to understand the purpose behind the tapes Willis picks up his camera, however Andy has his own agenda for the project.
Tapes from The Revolutionary is a humorous unconventional documentary that turns the lens on itself an examines the filmmaking process.
This year Tapes From The Revolutionary was broadcasted on NPO Doc (Dutch Broadcaster), won IdeasTap Graduate Award : Short Film in association with BAFTA and was nominated for the Channel 4 Award for Innovation in Storytelling at Glasgow Short Film Festival. The film will be viewable online next year.
